Who's telling their career stories at What else can I do?

Sarah McNichol is the Head of Antenna and a full time employee of Confetti Media Group. Sarah had never had a “proper job” until 2008. For 15 years she experienced fun, challenge, risk, satisfaction, hard work and success running her own creative businesses.
In 2008 life events required Sarah to make a radical change of direction and she moved into the public sector. Equipped with entrepreneurial experience and personal development expertise but no experience of life inside a large organisation she learned a lot about how to navigate big changes and find a new direction.
Sarah will share some of this story and some recommended approaches for managing change.

Rob Pittam was a BBC journalist for ten years before deciding to spend more time with his family. His job as a Business Correspondent, was to cover industry and business stories for Working Lunch. He also appeared on Breakfast News, The News Channel and 5-Live. He left after realising that he’d visited a pub in Bristol more times than he’d been to the local at the end of his street. He set up his own company in April last year, Robin Hood Media, specialising in PR, film-making and media training. His family, and the pub, are grateful!
Rob will be sharing the highs and lows of leaving a large corporation and going it alone.


Netty Reddish was a design technology teacher for 7 years, four as head of department in an inner city high school.  Realising she was doing less of what she loved  - teaching - she did an MA in Metalwork and Jewellery at Sheffield Hallam University with a view to doing community projects. Then she won the university Enterprise Challenge beating 88 other companies and the 'Design and Make Bus' was born! Now delivering projects in wood, metal, fabrics and plastics in schools across Derbyshire, Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire, developing as an artist and creating fabulous point of sale for independent  retailers. Netty helps answer that question -' What else can teachers do?'



Sue Townsend is Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of Nottingham. She teaches and researches in modern Japanese history, has published two research monographs, including Miki Kiyoshi 1897-1945: Japan’s Itinerant Philosopher (Brill, Leiden: 2009) and was recently awarded a three-year Leverhulme Trust Grant to conduct a project entitled Automobility and the Urban Environment in Nagoya and Birmingham c. 1955-1973. However, Sue was one of those who failed her 11+ and just started higher education in 1986 after 4 years serving in the WRNS and 8 years driving buses in the south of England!

David Ajose is founder and CEO of Exeid .com.  David describes his business as a full service commercial property consultancy with a twist. David started his working life selling strawberries  before the age of 10  and his career has taken him  in a number of alternative directions ranging from the entertainment business through to recruitment consultancy and sales and marketing consultancy. More recently David has focused his energies on his new brand which has seen consistent growth during a period when all measure of the sector show rapid decline. Best piece of advice from David regarding careers?  “Make work your play, and you’ll never work another day”.


Special guest - Lloydie is going to demonstrate some ways of seeing yourself doing something different and convincing others too! Lloydie has16 years in broadcasting as a presenter and manager.  He's an NLP Trainer and Master Practitioner as well as a hypnotist.  He performs with Nottingham's improvised comedy troupe MissImp at The Glee Club, Nottingham and was recently improvising at the Edinburgh Fringe.  He enjoys helping people to communicate with more precision so that they can get more out of their lives. www.lloydie.net/  email @lloydie.net   Click here to check out MissImp's next show
